The objective of this presentation is to draw attention to the issues related to the selection of adequate occupation and theassessment of health ability of a diabetic to work in terms of current regulations and to present some special aspects of occupationalmedicine related to diabetes.The authors stress the importance of an individual assessment of health ability to work and the cooperation of all specialists.They present the conditions relevant to the assessment, such as the type and weight of diabetes, treatment methods, complications,health demands of work and the personality of a diabetic. They present characteristics of an ideal occupation and provide a list ofoccupations and activities which are not suitable for a diabetic under certain circumstances. Those are especially activities whichmay endanger the health of co-workers or inhabitants. They also notice the assessment of temporary working disability and theassessment of the decrease of ability of sustained profitability in diabetics.
