Overview
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of children atopic dermatitis (AD) on the quality of life of the family members and to compare their quality of life with the quality of life of parents of children suffering from other skin diseases. For this purpose we conducted Czech validation of the Dermatitis Family Impact Questionnaire („Vliv atopického ekzému dítěte na členy jeho rodiny“). The questionnaire „Vliv atopického ekzému dítěte na členy jeho rodiny“ was collected from 142 respondent parents. The average score of the families with a child suffering from AD was 8,66 (SD = 6. 47, n = 99). Compared to this the score of the families with children with other skin diseases (naevus, verruca vulgaris and molluscum contagiosum) was 1.22 (SD = 2.73, n = 19; SD = 1.50, n = 4; SD = 2.12, n=2). This pilot study proved that decreased quality of life of families of children with AD exists also in the Czech Republic. This issue has not been studied in the Czech Republic yet. The czech results were mostly comparable with the results in foreign studies. Moreover, the newly validated questionnaire proved to be fully understandable and clear for the parents of children suffering from AD.
