The prosthetic therapy of patients with cleft anomalies is a part of complexmultidisciplinary therapy, where pediatrician, geneticist, phoniatrist, surgeon and stomatologist,orthodontist and prosthetic specialist participate. This historical survey evaluates theshare of stomatological prosthetic care in the therapy of these patients, which has changedsignificantly over time in connection with the development of other medical branches and inrelation to the progress in stomatological prosthetics itself.Beginning with the antique period the author pays attention to the most significant personalities,who principally influenced the development in the therapy of cleft patients as well asnew discoveries and subsequent changes in technological area in the production of prostheticsubstitutes.
