Overview
The most frequent intracapsular disorders of the TM joint are disorders of thecomplex of the articular head and disc, i.e. a discopathy of the mandibular joint. To expressintracapsular problems more accurately and to select correctly the therapeutic procedure it isimportant to visualize reliably the articular disc. To this end various imaging methods wereintroduced or modified (arthrography, computed tomography). Imaging by magnetic resonanceis better than other imaging methods in many parameters. During the period from 1994–1997the authors examined by magnetic resonance 30 mandibular joints. The joints were examinedby T1 and T2 with weighted SE sequencies with the mouth closed and open and subsequentlyby pseudo-dynamic imaging, i.e. special GE sequence. The authors recommend a combinationof the two methods of MR imaging in the diagnosis of intracapsular disorders of the mandibularjoint.
