Overview
We investigated brain perfusion in patients suffering from major depression by single-photonemission computed tomography (SPECT) for several years in the Department of Psychiatry inBrno. The principle of SPECT is radionuclide administration to patients and the subsequenttarget organ uptake of the radiotracer is measured over time. We obtain information about thephysiological process of interest. As for our results SPECT does not seem to be an appropriatediagnostic screening method for depression. May be it can be used as tool for the objectiveevaluation of treatment reactivity.
