V práci autori upozornují na význam komplexní farmakologické kontroly aktivace sympatiku u vysoce rizikových pacientu ohrozených perioperacníischémií myokardu. Jako soucást ochrany myokardu v perioperacním období je prezentován ultrakrátce pusobící betablokátor esmolol (Brevibloc ).Jeho pouzití, jako soucásti komplexní protekce myokardu, snizuje incidenci perioperacní ischémie myokardu u pacientu podstupujících výkon na brišníaorte.
