Overview
The author in his article presents an overview and scientific background for cryotherapy and its possible use in prostate cancer treatment. As major indication salvage cryotherapy can be considered in patients without metastatic disease who failed radiotherapy. Proper selection of patient plays a key role in achieving of optimal treatment results. The author discusses the most optimal indication criteria because we still do not have any accurately defined criteria today. Technical advancement of that technology enabled to reach better results and to decrease the incidence of complications. Currently published complication rates presented in this article can be considered very low (with the exception of erectile dysfunction). Cryotherapy can be considered as very effective modality for organ confined prostate cancer treatment after radiation failure.
Key words:
prostate cancer, radiotherapy failure, salvage cryotherapy
