Overview

Penile cancer is characterized by a prolonged period of locoregional growth which can include also regional nodal involvement. For this reason inguinal lymphadenectomy can be curative. It is indicated in patients with palpable nodes and in selected patients without clinical positive nodes but with unfavorable features of the primary tumor. Pelvic lymphadenectomy is recommended in patients with more than 1 positive inguinal node.

KEY WORDS:
squamous carcinoma of the penis, lymph node metastases, classic and modified inquinal lymph node dissection, pelvic lymph node dissection
