Overview

Work objective:
The primary purpose of the work is to present the surgical technique and the results of internal fixation of fractures of the distal humerus by the distal humeral locking plates.

Methods:
The work analysis and evaluates the group of 24 patients with fractures of the distal humerus solved using locking compression Distal Humerus Plates in the Department of Traumatology of KNTB Zlín in the span of years 2006 to 2009. The group of patients proximately a year since the internal fixation was evaluated using the scoring system "Mayo Elbow Performance (MEP) Score" and the objective measurements of the elbow motion range.

Results:
As evaluated by MEP Score, out of total 24 operated patients, the outcome of 8 patients (i.e. 31,25%) was rated as excellent, of 4 patients (i.e. 16.66%) as good, of 6 patients (i.e. 25%) as satisfactory and of 4 patients (i.e. 16.66%) as poor.

Conclusion:
The application of the distal humeral plates brings a significant advance in treatment of comminuted fractures of the distal humerus. However, even with their exact use, it is not guarenteed to re-achieve the full function with this type of fracture.

Key words:
comminuted distal humeral fractures, distal humeral plates (DHP), Mayo Elbow Performance Score.
