Overview
Analysis of aggregated data on quality of perinatal care of the South Moravia region in 2005. Results demonstrated a gently increase of live births. There has been an increase in the incidence of preterm birth and low birthweight. The rising incidence of multiple births has made a major contribution to this rise.
The perfect transport in utero improves the prognosis of the very low and extremely low birthweight infants.
It is usual to present birthweight-specific mortality rates in 500 g groups.
The main priority of the neonatological care is the morbidity of the extremely premature newborns. There has also been an increase in the numbers of babies likely to need additional care. The likelihood that a baby will need specialist care is highest among those with the lowest birthweights, and the proportion of babies of very low or extremely low birthweight who survive birth has increased more quickly than the total numbers of live births.
