Overview
In 2001–2007, 445 cases of occupational disease risk were reported in the Czech Republic which represented 4.4% of all occupational diseases reported in this period. Workers from the Moravia and Silesia Region formed 47% cases and workers in the field of mining coal, lignite and peat formed 31% cases. The most frequent causes of exposure were vibrations and a longterm excessive load on extremities (35.3% and 29.4% cases). The most frequent was the syndrome of a carpal tunnel (37.1% cases). In the paper, authors compare data on occupational disease risks to occupational diseases reported in the same period and analyze the data according to gender, diagnoses, professions, age and exposure length. They conclude that the number of reported occupational disease risks show a stable trend in last seven years. Authors recommend that instead of using the category of occupational disease risk the criteria for assessing occupational diseases were diminished in selected items on the list of occupational diseases in near future.
