Overview
Long-term home oxygen therapy in a standard therapeutic method of long-term respiratory insufficiency and it is based on a long-term application of oxygen in the home environment. Long-term home oxygen therapy is indicated in patients with proved chronic respiratory insufficiency of medium to severe degree originated due to the disease of lung, thoracic wall, pulmonary vessels of neurological disorders of the myopathy type or hypoventilation syndrome. Health insurance companies in the Czech Republic reimburse this kind of therapy in the form of daily lease of technical device, such as the oxygen concentrator or a device for maintain liquid oxygen. This kind of therapy is highly costly and its indication must be based of objectification of the patient’s respiratory insufficiency.
