The rising costs for medications are of concern for health care systems. With limited resources quality of prescribing and waysto improve it has become an important tool of rational pharmacotherapy. This overview is focused at basic methodology usedin prescribing analysis, e. g. Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) classification system and Defined Daily Doses (DDD),usage of the Drugs that account for 90% of the Use - DU 90% technique and teleological classification of drug use. An importantpart of prescribing analysis is the feedback to prescribers, which could improve the quality of drug prescribing.
