Sorafenib – a new hope for patients with hepatocellular cancer

Overview

The authors present a brief overview of the treatment of hepatocellular cancer (HCC) and focus on the treatment of advanced HCC with sorafenib. Results of studies with this drug demonstrate that it prolongs survival in these patients. Clinical trials in adjuvant treatment, or in combination with another drug or other treatment method, are in progress. The encouraging results of treatment with sorafenib (Nexavar®) are illustrated with a case report of a patient with unusually long survival.
