Overview
Diabetes mellitus, particularly considering its rising incidence, presents serious comorbidity in patients indicated for surgical management. Correct preoperative treatment and perioperative management in diabetic patients is a priority in order to prevent postoperative complications and for recovery. Diagnostic criteria and basic recommendations for preoperative management of diabetic patients undergoing surgery are reviewed.
