Overview
Closed subcutaneous tibialis anterior tendon rupture is considered a rare injury. Inveterate subcutaneous rupture in our case report was treated by free tendon graft from the plantaris muscle and palmaris longus tendon 2 months after injury. Shin movement was restored three months post-operation – 15° dorsiflexion, 30° plantiflexion, 30° supination and 15° pronation, with active tibialis anterior muscle (TA) function. Compensatory dynamic stabilizers of the instep caused pain regression when full weight was brought to bear. TA rupture is a very uncommon injury, and there is not unified process to treat this injury. No prospective review study on the subject has been published, and all articles describe different methods of treating this injury. The results in these publications are comparable.
Key words:
tibialis anterior tendon rupture, free tendon graft.
