Overview

This review discusses the benefits of topical treatment of rheumatic diseases by non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. This treatment is widely used and there are an increasing number of clinical trials confirming its efficiency. Topical NSAID treatment is well tolerated and has fewer adverse effects than oral application. Although topical forms of NSAID are more expensive than oral ones, local treatment may be eventually cheaper from a long-term perspective.

Key words:
rheumatic diseases, non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, topical treatment.
