Overview

Wireless capsule endoscopy is a new diagnostic method for the gastrointestinal tract, namely the small bowel. It is an indispensable part of the diagnostic algorithm, mainly in bleeding from an unknown source, and in small bowel tumours, coeliac, and Crohn’s disease. If properly used, capsule endoscopy is very well tolerated, non-invasive, and safe. Ongoing studies should confirm the utility of capsule endoscopy in oesophageal and large bowel diseases.

Key words:
capsule endoscopy, small bowel, gastrointestinal tract.
