Overview
The author describes the evolution in the understanding of metabolic syndrome, its basic clinical and laboratory features and their role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. He points out the poor clarity and disputes in MS definition, and reiterates the necessity to intervene in all known risk factors of atherosclerosis for effective prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
