Overview

The case report deals with a patient who attended the Department of Ophthalmology fora vision defect, which was caused by an extensive swelling of eyelids on both eyes, whichcompletely closed the palpebral fissures. There were no other complaints of the patient. In thedifferential diagnosis the authors considered the accident in anamnesis, palpation finding on theeyelids indicating an extensive emphysema, and the general examination, which revealed theall-body extent of the same. The condition was caused by post-traumatic fracture of four ribs withsubsequent pneumothorax and subcutaneous emphysema, which predominated in the area ofeyelids and face.

Key words:
subcutaneous emphysema - pneumothorax - eyelid edema.
