Overview
In the immunological out-patient departments of the Institute of Immunology. Alergology and Microbiology of the First Medical Faculty Charles University and General Faculty Hospital, Prague the authors administer with a very satisfactory effect trypsin to patients with clinical (subfebrile temperatures, arthralgia, myalgia, fatigue) and laboratory signs of inflammation. With regard to its known properties of accelerated healing this preparation was used also in a female patient with leukocytoclastic vasculitis. The authors describe the detailed tase-history and mention known mechanismy of the action of proteases and their receptors. As leukocytoclastic vascuatis is one of the most frequent types of vasculitis the authors discuss this disease and its recommended therapy in more detail. Trypsin therapy can replace classical anti-inflammatory or even immunosuppressive treatment and certainly is a suitable supplement in complicated patients, or conversely sufficient monotherapy in patients with a hitherto not clearly defined immunopathological vascular disease.
Key words:
leukocytoclastic vasculitis - inflammation - enzyme therapy - trypsin.
