Overview

We present a case report of a 68-year-old patient with accidental detection of early squamous cell carcinoma of the middle part of the oesophagus. During the diagnostic process, the macroscopic fading of the tumour had changed and Lugol’s staining (otherwise a very sensitive and specific method for diagnosing early squamous carcinoma) was false negative. The false negative Lugol’s staining was explained by a detailed histological assessment.

Key words:
oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma – Lugol’s solution – endoscopic resection

The authors declare they have no potential conflicts of interest concerning drugs, products, or services used in the study.

The Editorial Board declares that the manuscript met the ICMJE „uniform requirements“ for biomedical papers.
