Overview

The treatment of obesity requires multidisciplinary treatment consisting of medical, nutritional, physiotherapeutic and psychological interventions. Currently, bariatric surgery is the most appropriate treatment available for severe obesity or obesity with comorbidities. Although bariatric surgery leads to significant weight loss in most cases, a significant proportion of patients do not achieve relevant results (limited weight loss or weight regain e.g. due to psychological problems). To achieve the desired postoperative results, preoperative psychological assessment and pre- and postoperative psychological support and care are necessary.
