Overview
Prevalence of overweight and obesity are increasing in the world and also in our country. Most of mortality cases in overweight and obese people is of cardiovascular (CV) origin. Some studies documented association of overweight and obesity increase with ischemic heart disease, but less so with other CV diseases. Analysis of Swedish authors of a study with Mendelian randomized character discovered association of overweight/obesity (BMI parameter) with some CV diseases by using genetic data from Biobank in UK – population of 367 703 people in the age group 40–69 ys, data during time period 2006–2010 ys. Mean age was 57 ys, 46% males, 10.3% smokers. They used 96 SNPs (genetic data, Single Nucleotide Proteins) and were able to document here 1.6% variability in BMI and 0.8% variability of characteristics of fat tissue. Genetically documented variability of BMI significantly and positively associated with 8 CV diseases: most significantly with aortic valve stenosis (relative risk: 1.13), then with heart failure (RR:1.12), and with deep venous thrombosis and hypertension (both with RR:1.10), other diseases with RR 1.07 and less, but also significant. The new result of this analysis is the documentation that overweight and obesity support development of aortic valve stenosis.
