Overview

Tobacco industry marketing is aimed on children and adolescents, adults rarely decide to start smoking. Except of prevention in this age group, about 250,000 adolescent smokers in our country need treatment. Unfortunately, they mostly lack motivation as well as treatment adherence. Even physicians mostly do not know specific treatment.

The article brings overview of the treatment – in principle same as in adults, with bigger impact on motivation and interventions. Further we describe limited availability of treatment, in our country only centres for tobacco dependent start to provide it. Web based discussions show that this topic means a problem for our adolescents and they are interested in it. It can be seen from one of most frequented server alik.cz from which we quote examples.
