Overview
The authors emphasize the advantages of laparoscopic pyloromyotomy as compared with conventional surgery according to Ramstedt. They evaluate the results of 15 laparoscopically performed pyloromyotomies (LP) during the period between April 1998 and April 2000 and compare the results with 40 classical pyloromyotomies. The second group of children was operated between January 1997 and April 2000. The selection of patients for different operations was made at random. It depended only on the presence of an experienced anaesthesiologist and surgeon familiar with laparoscopic surgery. From the group children were eliminated with an associated disease which is a contraindication for laparoscopic surgery. The authors evaluate the duration of surgery, the period before normal food intake, the frequency of postoperative vomiting, surgical complications, the period of hospitalization and possible necessity to administer prokinetics during the postoperative period.
