Overview
Flat pigment manifestations occur on the mucous membranes and skin-mucosal transitions quite rarely, moreover, these localizations are sometimes wrongly omitted during the examination of the patient. Dermatoscopically, we most often examine mucosal lentigo (on the lips and genitals), less often melanocytic nevi, mucosal intraepithelial neoplasia, benign vascular tumours or inflammatory changes. The basic effort remains to distinguish these manifestations from malignant melanoma, which is most often encountered on the vulva. Dermatoscopically, a "multicomponent pattern" finding composed of several asymmetrically arranged structures and colors is typical for melanoma. Suspicion is mainly aroused by the presence of grey-blue and white colors in combination with structureless areas.
