Overview
The aim of study was to evaluate osseointegration of KrF laser hydroxylapatitecoated titanium alloy Ti6Al14V implants. For deposition a KrF excimer laser in a stainless-ste-el deposition chamber was used. The thickness of HA films was about 1 mm. Minipigs were usedin this investigation. The implants were placed vertically into the lower jaw. Quality ofosseointegration was evaluated histologically by transmitted and fluorescent light. In thecontrol group (titanium implant without cover) fibrous connective tissue was seen between theimplant and newly formed bone, in laser-deposited coat a layer of fibrous connective tissue wasseen only rarely, thus the osseointegration of samples is better. The level of osseointegrationof the host bone was investigated. The percentage of bone/implant contact was determined. Thetotal osseointegration of both types of implants was similar, bone growth on implants was upto 70 %.
