Overview
In the introduction of a review article, contemporary status of the care of children and adolescents with hyperkinetic disorder in the Czech Republic was described. Reasons leading to still not satisfactory diagnostics and treatment of hyperkinetic disorder were summarized. Current concept of the disorder and increasing attention to the problem worldwide were discussed. After overall information on stimulant treatment, the article focused on atomoxetine. An overview of pre-clinical data and clinical studies of atomoxetine as well as of clinical aspects of atomoxetine treatment was given. Review was supplemented by the information on contemporary Czech treatment guidelines of hyperkinetic disorder.
