The paper presents the main fi ndings of the research on suicidal behaviours in Poland’s societyconducted in 1990s. A number of social factors determining suicidal behaviours were described. Thegeneral tendency for men to commit suicide more often than women was confi rmed. The relationbetween methods used for suicide and a sex was found. The main motives of suicidal attempts werealso discussed.
