Overview
The aim of this pilot study was to prove the effectiveness of the short time group cognitive behavioraltherapy (CBT) from the point of view of the weight reduction and its impact on the change of thequality of life (exactly health-related quality of life, HRQOL) in a non-selected group of Czech obesewomen.Design: Monitoring of the change of weight and HRQOL before and after 3-month group CBTintervention.Patients: 132 women aged from 20 to 65 years (mean age 39.8), with Body mass index (BMI) before theintervention from 25.5 to 43.4 kg/m2 (mean 30.8 kg/m2).The intervention was a part of „Courses of losing weight STOB“ and the women included in thestudy have not been treated with any other therapy at the same time. Unfortunately, at the periodof monitoring, no men attended the courses, so the data are valid only for women’s population.Measuring: The questionnaire „The Impact of Weight on Quality of Life-Lite“ (IWQOL – Lite, Kolotkinet al. 2001). Results: A short-time group CBT has been effective in the weight reduction program, and at the same time we demonstrated the signifi cant improvement of complete HRQOL and all itsmonitored parameters.
