This article deals with sulpiride, a representative of benzamides. This drug became availablebefore new atypical antipsychotics (= antipsychotics of the second generation) but meets allpharmacological and clinical criteria of „atypicality“. Its advantage is a low price and long-termexperience with its application, the disadvantage a relative lack of specially aimed studies withnew atypical antipsychotics.
