Parenteral Influence on Smoking, AlcoholConsumption and Sports Activities of Adolescents

Overview

Within the framework of the project „Health inequalities in adolescents“ the authors investigatedin a sample of Slovak adolescents (N=2616 incl. 1370 boys, mean age 15 years) the influence ofparental behaviour on smoking, alcohol consumption and sports activities. The data were obtai-ned by means of questionnaires. The authors proved a significant influence of the parents on thebehaviour of adolescents in all investigated constellations. If one or both parents smoke daily, theprobability of experience with smoking, frequency of smoking undesirable attitudes to smokingare higher as compared with families where neither parent smokes. Similarly when one or bothparents drink alcoholic beverages or are at least once a month drunk, the probability of experien-ce with alcohol consumption and frequency of alcohol consumption resp. is higher as comparedwith families where neither parent drinks. If one or both parents are engaged in sports everyweek, the frequency of sports activities of adolescents is higher.
