Within the framework of studies of pharmacotherapy of the diseases of the muscular and skeletalsystem, the paper aimed to analyze the pharmacotherapy of osteoporosis. The significance of theproblems in the field of research of epidemiology of osteoporosis requires the use of all availablemethods. With regard to the fact that the epidemiological situation in osteoporosis i s also reflectedin the consumption of drugs, the paper aimed to contribute to the solution of the problem by meansof an analysis of the pharmacotherapy of osteoporosis. The results of the analysis have confirmedthe relationship between the prevalence of the disease of osteoporosis and drug consumption. Thepaper demonstrated an increase in the total consumption of drugs prescribed for osteoporosis in1998 and 1999 in comparison with 1997 as well as an increase in the consumption according to theage and sex. A statistically significant difference was recorded in the consumption of drugsprescribed for osteoporosis with regard to women. The analysis showed changes in the assortmentof prescribed drugs as well as changes in the management of the therapy of osteoporosis.
