The authors describe longer than two-year experience with the use of permanentintracanalicular silicone plugs in the treatment of the dry eye syndrome. BetweenAugust 1997 and November 1999 the authors selected by means of the test withdissolvable collagen plugs 50 patients to whom permanent silicone intracanalicu-lar plugs were inserted. During the follow up period (1 - 28 months) no complica-tions were recorded associated with the insertion of permanent intracanalicularsilicone plugs.
