Overview
Objective:
Verification of the reference interval of a new method for the determination of free triiodothyronine in serum on the Abbott Architect 16200 analyzer.
Design:
Original Article.
Settings:
Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Vídeňská 1958/9, 140 21 Praha
Material and methods:
The reference interval was validated on a total of 110 serum samples from healthy subjects, comprising 55 females and 55 males. All samples used were from the IKEM Biobanka. The FT3_6 microparticle chemiluminescent immunoassay Abbott kit was used for the assay.
Results:
All free serum triiodothyronine values measured by the new fT3_6 method were in the reference interval indicated by the manufacturer. The reference range determined by a non-parametric statistical method with the Box-Cox transformation on the IKEM Biobanka samples was 3.21 - 4.78 pmol/L.
Conclusion:
The fT3 reference range established by the Abbott’s new fT3_6 method can be used in clinical practice with the range specified by the manufacturer.
