Overview
Until 2009, given the lack of an objective, reliable, and reproducible index encompassing the most important anatomical and topographic characteristics of renal tumors, clinical tumor size was the only feature widely used to measure the technical complexity of PN. Recently, the urologic community had the opportunity to use standardized anatomical classifications able to stratify patients suitable for partial nephrectomy according to different risks of complications. Specifically, RENAL nephrometry and PADUA scores were proposed with the aim to standardize the classification of the renal tumors according to their more relevant anatomical characteristics. In this article, we summarized the development, the calculation and the results of the PADUA score. Moreover, we highlighted the main differences between PADUA and RENAL nephrometry score.
