Overview
Purpose:
Give attention to a few occurring, but dangerous hand injuries with high pressure injection of heterogeneous substances.
Type of article:
A case study.
Material and results:
There are presented two case reports of these injuries treated at the surgical department of our hospital. Using the presented case studies, there are mentioned pitfalls in diagnosis and subsequent treatment of these injuries and furthermore there is presented a short review of recommended management treatment of these injuries.
Conclusion:
Injuries of fingers and hands by high pressure spray gun are rare injuries which should not be forgotten in their differential diagnosis. There is required an active surgical approach for the early development of the local compartment syndrome and to prevent the toxic effects of the injected substance. Despite proper and early treatment, this injury leaves a large percentage of the permanent consequences, including amputation.
Key words:
High pressure injection injuries, compartment syndrome, amputation, surgical decompression.
