Overview
Amputation of lower extremity at any level is a great intervention to locomotor system as well as the human psychical area. Present quality of technical possibilities is capable to compensate the loss of ability of bipedal locomotion as a basic faculty of human individual. Obviously, the complete function of healthy lower extremity cannot be compensated by prosthesis, but present prosthetic remedies can very well substitute it in cases of lower levels of amputation and, in many cases where the extremity was severely affected for a long period of time before amputation, even provide a better functional result. For a full return of the patient to active life the broad rehabilitation team with professional knowledge of neurophysiology related to human locomotion as well as the possibilities of prosthetic equipment are necessary prerequisites. The objective of the paper is to introduce rehabilitation in individuals having undergone amputation at our clinic within the framework of interdisciplinary collaboration.
