Overview
Urinary incontinence is one of the most frequent problems affecting mainly women. There may be millions patients suffering from it world wide. Interest in this problem has been increasing among specialists as well as the general public in the course of the last two decades.
The most frequent types of incontinence seen in general practice are stress incontinence and overactive bladder, including urgency of micturition and urge incontinence.
Physiotherapy played a neglieable role in the treatment of incontinence in the past, and was indicated only for stress incontinence.
In this paper a new concept of both diagnosis and therapy is presented, including physiotherapy and the authors’ personal concept in which physiotherapy plays a key role in treating both stress incontinence and bladder hyperactivity.
Owing to standardised diagnostic and therapeutic procedures the effectivity of our method can be tested according to the principles of evidence based medicine.
