Overview
Chlamydia trachomatis is important genital pathogen. An association between chlamydial infektion and serious cervical cancer has been also suggested. Approximately in half cases is chlamydial infection the attendat infection of another genital disease.
Chlamydiosis is serious problem in group of young, sexually active women, therefore it is important performing screening in risk group of women without clinical signs, because Chlamydia are able to develop not only acute but inaparent and chronic infection as well. Persistence in host cells is a significant feature of chlamydial infection. 1522 endocervical swabs from the women with gynekological inflammatory diseases and 216 men with urethritis were examined. Positive results were observed in 30,1 % women and 10,6 % men. The Clearview Clamydia MF test (f. Oxoid) for qualitative detection of Chlamydia trachomatis was used for examination of samples. This simple, rapid test is for detection of surface lipopolysacharide chlamydial antigen, and can be performed and easily interpreted in laboratory or clinic. Results are available in 30 minutes.
