Overview

The author in her article summarizes the importance of breast feeding and breast milk, not only from a nutritional aspect, but she also stresses the biopsychological aspect, lying in strenghtening of mutual mother–child relationship. Breast milk is totally unique, its composition corresponds with the needs of successful child’s development. The article addresses the differences between breast milk and the milks of other mammalia (especially the cow’s milk). The differences are in different composition, not only of fundamental nutritives, i.e. proteins, fats and sugars, but also mineral substances, vitamins, enzymes and microelements, both from the quantitative and qualitative aspects.
