Influence of hormone replacement therapy on waist-to-hip ratio

Overview
Metabolic changes in postmenopause include the preference of visceral body fat storage. It is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and breast carcinoma. We try to confirm the ability of hormonal therapy (estradiol valerate 2 mg + dienogest 2 mg) to protect from visceral body fat distribution. Group of 933 postmenopausal women were observed in opened prospective multicentric noncontroled study. The duration of study was from 3 to 9 month. Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) decreased in 418 patients. 241 patients showed no changes of WHR. We observed the lowering or the preservation of WHR in 70.6 % of patients.
