Overview

The SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes coronavirus disease COVID-19, has rapidly swept across the world since its identification in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. Virus is transmitted in the community by droplet spread, affect the respiratory tract, in some cases can cause severe pneumonia and even death.  Otorhinolaryngologists are particularly at risk due to the close contact with mucus membranes of the upper respiratory tract and have been among the most affected healthcare professionals. Specific recommendations and preliminary guidance on COVID-19 management relevant to otolaryngologists are presented based on the literature, when available, or consensus best practices from China and other countries.
