Overview

Intracranial dural sinuses thrombosis belongs to grave otogenic intracranial complications during suppurative medial otitis or mastoiditis. It could be occur in the course of acute, subacute or chronic middle ear inflammations. The most frequent is affected sigmoid sinus. Inflammations of mucosa pneumatic system in processus mastoideus spreads into intracranial along vascular canals or via bone erosion. Early diagnosis and follow-up treatment is very important, because of good patient prognosis. The most frequent symptoms of thrombosis are fever, otalgia and cephalgia, but the thrombosis could be also asymtomatic. Primary therapy is supportive treatment, antibiotic and anticoagulation therapy by intravenous low-molecular weight heparin. In case of progressive neurological symptomatology is necessary radical therapy with ligation of internal jugular vein, uncovering of the sinus and removal of thrombus. In this article is reported a case of a 4-year old girl and the course of disease.
