Overview
Summary:
The treatment of postoperation pains is an indispensable part of complex therapy of patients. The pain after operation principally influences nutrition and hydration of the patient and consequently the duration and course of convalescence and last, but not least, the overall satisfaction of the patients with the surgical intervention and therapy.
Since 2002 the Otolaryngological ward of the Hospital at Frýdek Místek has been monitoring the intensity of acute postoperation pain and efficiency of analgesic therapy by means of a “Visual analogous scale”. Based on the analysis of errors in analgesia of the pain the authors recommend the usage of higher dosage of analgesics, administration of analgesic combinations and more frequent used of opioids, optimally the selection of analgesics according to individual sensitivity of the patients. The administration of analgesics should be on preventive basis (preemptive therapy of pain), rather more frequently and not after the patient asks due to the already encountered pain. Since the efficiency of analgesics is individually different, suitable efficiency of analgesic application should be monitored in the preoperation period and modify the medication according to the needs of the patient.
