The authors discuss smoking as a factor which causes deterioration of the prognosis of occupational diseases affecting theairways, lungs and pleura, in particular silicosis, miners pneumoconiosis, lung cancer caused by asbestos and radioactive substancesand occupational bronchial asthma. The assembled findings support intense antismoking education in exposed workers.
