Overview

Gliomas belong to primary tumors of brain tissue arising from glial cells. Generally, we distinguish benign low grade ones and malignant high grade tumors. The imaging method of choice is a magnetic resonance, potentially complemented with PET/CT, and an examining of a histological specimen. This paper summarizes an overview of PET radiopharmaceuticals for gliomas imaging. They are divided into three groups based on mechanism of their accumulation: altered tumor metabolism, tumor hypoxia or overexpression of certain receptors.
