Disorders of endocrine system are often associated with diabetes mellitus. Overproduction of hormones withhyperglycaemic effect, for example that of growth hormone or cortisol, can lead to impaired glucose tolerance oreven to induce manifestation of diabetes mellitus. Autoimmune character of some endocrinopathies is a well-knowncause of diabetes mellitus type 1 and also of the thyroid gland involvement. Diabetes mellitus, especially with a poorglycaemic control, influences various functions of endocrine organs. The most frequent disturbances are the slowdown of the growth in children and adolescents and hypothalamo-pituitary-gonadal axis dysfunction in women. Thisreview summarizes relationship between the most common endocrinopathies and diabetes mellitus.
