Overview

Clinical case report is usually a detailed clinical report of selected information about symptomatology, diagnosis and diagnostic process, therapy and interventions and other aspects that are studied and monitored in a particular or several patients. The case report describes the situation, course and experience in the context of an unusual case, brings new findings from and into clinical practice, and new findings are usually compared with available relevant literature. However, in Czech conditions, the case reports often mistaken with case studies. The article presents basic information on clinical case reports, on structural components of case reports, on systematic case reports/studies and also offers – on the basis of diverse recommendations – the possibility to correctly process case reports for its publishing in one of the scientific journals. Various processing formats are offered, terminology used in the case approach is explained and the reader is also acquainted with the checklists assessing the correctness and overall quality of processed case report (most often before sending it to editors of the selected journal). At the same time, the article introduced concepts in English, so the reader has an overview of terminology and also practices in the context of publishing in foreign journals.
